Whom Do I Follow?

Isaiah 41:29-31 " He gives strength to the weary and increases the power of the weak. Even youths grow tired and weary, and young men stumble and fall; but those who hope in the LORD will renew their strength. They will soar on wings like eagles; they will run and not grow weary, they will walk and not be faint."

Lord, This morning on my way to church, I saw something I have seen many times in the Fall of the year.  By the end of Ward's Ferry Road, there was a big flock of Blackbirds flying.  They looked like the huge balls of schooling fish one might see in the ocean.  They were not like the Canadian Geese that fly in formation behind a leader, then they take turns leading, and draft from the others in front to conserve energy.  They were swirling mindlessly it seemed; little wings flapping like crazy using all kinds of energy and really going nowhere.  They first flew north, then south, then northeast, then southwest, then north again.  Then one got tired so landed on the wire above the road.  Soon all were on the wire resting.  Without warning one or two started to fly and then they all took off to start this strange dance in the sky for absolutely no purpose that I could see.  All that flying following one that did not seem to know where they were going or what their purpose or plan was.
Sweet Savior, I thought how much we can be like them sometimes.  The world pulls us in a hundred different directions at one and we try to follow those who seem to know what they are doing and where they are going only to realize we are all tired out, have not gotten anywhere,  and have not accomplished anything.
You tell us to follow You.  You, being omniscient, know the path we are to take, and how long it will take to get there.  You see all of the pitfalls, dangers, and storms, but also see the times of feasting, plenty, encouragement, and the blessing of knowing we have accomplished an wonderful eternal purpose.  If I follow You, You will get me home safely and having accomplished Your plan for me.
These little birds go crazy just to stay in the air.  The eagle and hawk let the wind under their wings carry them, expending little o no energy, but can see great sights from as high as they fly because You have given them super keen eyesight.  No one is higher than You, Lord, so I need to trust Your directions for every move I make, every decision, and to trust You to know what's best.
